Apple announced on Wednesday new 14‑inch and 16‑inch MacBook Pros featuring a PROLED XDR OLED display. Prices start at $2,899 for the 14‑inch model with an M5 Pro chip and $3,399 for the 16‑inch version with an M5 Pro. Pre‑orders are open, and shipping begins on November 6.

Touchscreen and Display Tech

The laptops are the first MacBook models with a touchscreen, a feature Apple has optimized across macOS 27. The display uses tandem OLED panels that can reach 2,000 nits peak brightness, support the P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, and deliver deeper blacks. A pill‑shaped Dynamic Island sits at the top of the screen and shows live activities, notifications and controls.

Under the hood, the devices ship with either an M5 Pro or an M5 Max processor. The M5 Max can be configured with up to 16 terabytes of SSD storage, and Apple says it is about 12% faster than the M4 Max in multi‑core CPU tests. The new MacBook Pros also include a six‑speaker audio system that Apple says delivers 50% deeper bass.

Apple has made the laptops slimmer and lighter than the standard MacBook Pro models. The 14‑inch version weighs 3 lb and the 16‑inch 4 lb. The design trims the display border to create a larger 16.3‑inch viewing area, and a new hinge offers improved stability. The built‑in 12‑megapixel Center Stage camera now supports advanced video stabilization for smoother video calls.
