Zocdoc, known for its online appointment‑booking service, has bought insurance‑tech company Sohar Health, marking the first time the nearly 20‑year‑old platform has made a purchase. The move is part of Zocdoc’s push to evolve beyond a marketplace into a broader healthcare‑access infrastructure. Executives said the acquisition will help the company make insurance coverage verification “more seamless at scale.” Sohar Health will continue operating under its own name and serve its current customers.

Insurance Discovery, Eligibility and Benefits Verification

Sohar Health simplifies insurance workflows with APIs that automate discovery, eligibility, benefits verification, network status checks, and cost estimates. The two firms had already partnered since 2025, with Zocdoc using Sohar’s technology to let patients see their coverage while searching for care. The partnership has helped 1 million patients verify coverage through Zocdoc’s platform. The company’s co‑founder, Dr. Ashish Mandavia, said the goal is to remove friction for patients navigating a health crisis or routine appointment.

Zocdoc is building a Care Access Network that lets payers and other platforms embed its booking capabilities into their own sites and apps. In September, the company launched the network and announced partnerships with Amazon Health AI, Google Gemini, Yelp, Healthgrades, Blue Shield of California, WellHive and other search engines. With over 200,000 providers, 200 specialties and more than 10,000 insurance plans listed, the platform aims to make finding and booking care easier for millions of patients.
