Valve has added a new feature to Steam called Achievement Sets. The change lets developers group achievements into logical sets. It was first revealed as a beta and is now a full feature. The move is aimed at making completion easier for players.

When a set is created, Steam shows each set with its own progress bar on the player’s profile. Players still unlock achievements normally, but the grouped view tracks progress toward the set’s goal. Completing all achievements in a set earns a profile trophy.

If a developer later adds more achievements to an existing set, players who already finished the set keep their completion status. Developers can also archive sets or individual achievements. Archived sets no longer appear on the profiles of players who missed them, and they don’t block progress toward completing a game.

Seventeen games already use Achievement Sets, including Against the Storm, DREDGE, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2 and Team Fortress 2. The feature is intended to help players spot new DLC achievements without losing their earlier progress. The system could also let developers separate single‑player and multiplayer goals.
