Gabriel Bortoleto will start from the very back of the grid after the FIA handed him a 20‑place penalty for using a fourth engine store and control‑electronics unit, both of which exceed the 2026 limits. Arvid Lindblad will lose five places for taking a sixth internal‑combustion engine, and Franco Colapinto will drop ten places for a fourth control‑electronics component.
During opening practice at the Circuit of the Americas, the FIA confirmed the grid drops. The number of drivers who have exceeded at least one power‑unit component allowance this season has now risen to 12 of the 22 at Austin, up from half the grid before these penalties.
Bortoleto’s new internal‑combustion engine, turbocharger, exhaust and ancillary parts were within his allowance; his breaches came from the fourth engine store and fourth control‑electronics unit. Lindblad’s five‑place penalty followed his second breach, while a first breach would have cost ten places. Colapinto’s 10‑place penalty came from his fourth control‑electronics unit.
