Walt Disney Studios is bringing Christopher Nolan’s 2006 film back to the big screen for its 20th anniversary. The film will be shown on 70mm film and in IMAX for the first time, with screenings beginning on January 29, 2027. The release marks the first opportunity for audiences to experience the movie in these high‑resolution formats.

Release details and formats

The studio has issued a teaser and a one‑sheet poster that accompany the announcement. Shot anamorphically on 35mm by cinematographer Wally Pfister, the title has been converted for 70mm and IMAX, and the film will also be available in 35mm and Digital 2D. The teaser, released on October 20, shows the title in large, bold letters and a brief montage of iconic scenes.

The original film starred Hugh Jackman as Robert Angier and Christian Bale as Alfred Borden, with supporting performances by Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Michael Caine, Andy Serkis and the late David Bowie.

The Prestige was a commercial success, earning over $109 million worldwide against a $40 million budget, and received critical acclaim for its performances, production design and narrative structure. It earned nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction at the Academy Awards and remains one of Nolan’s most popular movies.

The limited engagement will run in select theaters across the United States, giving film lovers a chance to see the movie in an immersive, cinematic experience that was not available when it first premiered. The re‑release is expected to attract both longtime fans and new viewers who appreciate the film’s blend of mystery and magic.
