Reports from The Verge and other outlets say the sixth entry in Bethesda’s flagship series could be officially named as soon as next month. The timing could line up with the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which falls on November 11. The game was announced at E3 2018, and little of it has been shown since.

Title revealed as 'Sentinel'

The subtitle is believed to be Sentinel. Sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans told The Verge the official title is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Xbox head Asha Sharma hinted at the name in August, posting a line about a live playthrough with eight asterisks in place of the title, matching the eight letters in Sentinel.

The game is reportedly set in Hammerfell, a region that has appeared in earlier Elder Scrolls games such as Daggerfall and The Elder Scrolls Online but has never had its own mainline game. The Verge reports the game will look at the history of the series and its mysterious ancient artifacts. Former lead designer Bruce Nesmith has said a setting around Iliac Bay could open the door to boats and seafaring.

Bethesda has largely stayed quiet since the announcement. Todd Howard has talked around the game without giving details. Bethesda developers have also raised concerns that recent Xbox layoffs could have a substantial and cascading effect on development. Xbox has polled players on whether the series could become an Xbox exclusive, so the platforms are not yet confirmed.
