Tesla unveiled its second‑generation Roadster in McGregor, Texas, where the car lifted off the ground and flew over the company’s fleet, including a Tesla Semi. In a demo the vehicle drove upside down, then used cold‑gas thrusters to flip and descend, showing the prototype’s aerial capability.

The flight system relies on 10 compressed‑air nozzles fed by a refilled tank, rather than a fuel source. Cold‑gas thrusters provide lift, allowing the car to hover, flip, and perform tricks, while suction fans and a retractable rear wing give it downforce for stability and nimble turns.

The demonstration sparked internet memes and comparisons to the video game Rocket League. Tesla says the flying version is not yet road‑legal and has not received approval for public roads, and the production Roadster is slated for 2028, though the flying package’s release date is still unknown.
