Ubisoft has made its 2016 open‑world extreme sports game Steep free to play for all Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Series X users until October 26. The offer does not require an Xbox Game Pass subscription, meaning anyone with an Xbox console can download and play the title at no cost during this period.
After October 26 the free download ends and players who want to keep playing will need to purchase the game from the Microsoft Store for $30.
Steep debuted in 2016 from Ubisoft Annecy and serves as a spiritual predecessor to 2021’s Rider’s Republic. It earned a 71 on Metacritic at launch, while Rider’s Republic later received a 78. In the Xbox Store it currently holds a 3‑star rating out of 5 based on more than 1,700 user reviews.
Gameplay and legacy
The game’s main story lasts roughly 12 hours, with additional side content extending playtime to about 25 hours; completionists can spend around 40 hours. Multiplayer can add many more hours on top of that. The free‑to‑play window is part of Ubisoft’s Free Play Days promotion, but unlike other titles in the event, Steep does not require a Game Pass subscription.
