At New York Comic-Con, Disney announced that Star Wars and Marvel properties will meet in a new project for fans. Kevin Smith revealed at the event that this crossover will happen in both print and through Lego building sets. The two franchises are set to collide in the world of Lego Ideas as part of a special challenge.
The story behind the collaboration is a five-part comic series called Hope Assembles. It begins in January and is created by writer Kevin Smith and artist David Marquez. This historic crossover unites heroes and villains from both universes in an unprecedented way.
Fans can submit their own creative ideas to the Lego Ideas website for a chance to see them made into real sets. The challenge celebrates the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope and invites entries on the web platform. Participants are asked to build using physical or virtual bricks from the franchises.
The specific categories for entry vary slightly in how they are described across reports. One source lists the divisions as Character Fusion, Vehicle Fusion, and Scene Fusion while another notes vehicles, characters, and scenes. Both accounts confirm fans must create mash-ups involving these themes without artificial intelligence tools.
Lego stated it is accepting many characters and vehicles from the franchises for entry into the contest. Submissions are open until Thursday, November 12. The rules require users to upload images of their creations with an engaging description.
Fan voting will go live starting Tuesday, December 8 after the submission window closes. Winners of the Lego Ideas challenge will be revealed in 2027 following the vote. This timeline allows creators time to build their mash-ups based on the comic crossover rules.
Marvel also revealed new variant covers for the comic that pair icons from each universe together. Some artwork shows Darth Vader with the Infinity Gauntlet fighting Doctor Doom while others feature Spider-Man and Luke Skywalker. These variants cover seven categories including scenes recreating moments from A New Hope.
