Players of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds are demanding that Year Two content be made available for free. This follows a revelation from publisher Sega outlining new paid downloadable content packs scheduled to launch in November. The backlash centers on claims that the Digital Deluxe Edition should have included these updates based on earlier marketing materials.
The controversy stems from a tweet posted on June 8, 2025, announcing pre-orders for the Digital Deluxe Edition. That post listed the edition as including the base game, Season Pass, and all future paid downloadable content. Fans note that the phrase all future paid downloadable content was listed separately from the initial Season Pass in that message.
Sega has since revealed plans for six crossover packs starting November 3, 2026. These new additions feature characters and stages from franchises like Godzilla, Evangelion, and Final Fantasy VII. Players purchasing the new Year Two Season Pass will pay $29.99 to access this content.

The standard edition price was reduced from $69.99 to $39.99 in the United States. The Digital Deluxe Edition saw a similar reduction, dropping from $89.99 to $59.99. These permanent price drops were announced alongside the schedule for future downloadable content.
Some community members have described the situation as a rug pull common in online games today. One player on Reddit stated they paid 100 dollars for the Deluxe Edition and feel screwed by the new charges. Social media reactions have included fans calling the publisher stupid liars over the discrepancy.
Push Square suggests Sega might argue that Season Two was not guaranteed at the time of the original June tweet. The analysis notes the accompanying image showed a Season One roadmap with greyed boxes for unannounced items. Despite this, the wording remains in the promotional post without removal.
Free content will continue to be released alongside the paid packs throughout the year. Updates include characters such as Bayonetta and Aigis from Persona 3 Reload at no cost. Sega has added items outside of Season Passes for all players to enjoy previously, including Axel from Crazy Taxi.
