Samsung Fold8 $300 cheaper than iPhone Duo

Samsung’s new Fold8 foldable is priced $300 lower than Apple’s iPhone Duo and is seeing a 45% sales surge in Europe, possibly spurred by the Duo’s launch.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 is $300 cheaper than Apple’s iPhone Duo, which began shipping on October 23. Both phones feature similar inner displays and battery capacities, but the Galaxy uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, whereas the Duo uses an Apple A20 Pro.

Market response

Samsung said the Fold8 and its Ultra sibling saw sales rise 45% across Europe in the nine weeks after their August 7 launch, compared with the Fold7’s sales the previous year. Google searches for Samsung foldables spiked more than 260% in September, peaking 460% during the week of September 6‑12, the same week the Duo was unveiled.

A Samsung UK executive told 9to5Google that demand for the Fold8 family had grown since the iPhone Duo was announced, putting demand up 16% since launch, though the exact metric was not defined.

Both phones lack dedicated telephoto cameras and instead use dual high‑resolution camera modules. The Galaxy’s cameras are slightly higher‑resolution than the Duo’s. Battery sizes are almost identical, so endurance will largely depend on the efficiency of each processor.

The foldable segment appears to be moving from a niche to a broader market, but it remains unclear how much Apple’s debut of the Duo fuels demand for Samsung’s Fold8. Any future Samsung update will cover a period with Apple’s foldable on sale.
