Rockstar Games confirmed that the studio’s next title after Grand Theft Auto 6 will not require another eight‑year development cycle, a gap that separated Red Dead Redemption 2 from GTA 6. In a Bloomberg interview, studio leaders Phil Hooker and Aaron Garbut said that the technology and team built for GTA 6 will carry over to the next project, allowing the studio to work more quickly.
Hooker explained that the engine, tools and team created during the GTA 6 development will let Rockstar move more ‘sideways’ than ‘upwards’, speeding up content creation. Garbut added that foundational changes made on the project are now complete and will not be dismantled for the next game.
The interview drew a parallel to the rapid release of Grand Theft Auto Vice City, which launched only a year after GTA 3 because it leveraged existing groundwork. Although Rockstar admits that the next title will not arrive immediately, the studio is not ruling out a much shorter gap than the eight years that followed GTA 6.
Separately, a GamesBeat report indicated that a PC version of GTA 6 is expected to launch sometime in the first quarter of 2027.
Meanwhile, GamesRadar+ reported that Rockstar has not disclosed the cost of GTA 6’s development and that the game is definitely not the $1.5 billion figure that had previously circulated.
