Porsche unveiled the Mission S concept in New York City on 15 October 2026. The two‑door, open‑top car sits on a Queens pier, the same spot where the 550 Spyder first appeared in 1953. Porsche says the Mission S will be a permanent entry above the 911, replacing the limited‑run flagships of the past such as the 918 Spyder.

The automaker’s statement, repeated by Chairman Michael Leiters, says the Mission S will use an internal‑combustion engine and not a battery‑electric or hybrid powertrain. Jalopnik notes that the design hints at a flat‑8 engine that could include some hybrid elements, showing the company’s ongoing debate about the platform’s powertrain.

Inside the concept Porsche mixes analogue and digital controls. Five round gauges, including a physical needle for the tachometer, sit in front of a small digital display behind the steering wheel. The car omits a centre touchscreen, instead offering a retractable MagSafe‑compatible smartphone holder that can serve as the information display.
