Oscar Piastri was handed a 10-second penalty after the Mexican Grand Prix for colliding with Arvid Lindblad. The penalty dropped him from seventh place, where he had finished the race, to fifteenth.

Collision at Turn One

The contact came at the first corner, where Piastri tried to pass Lindblad on the outside. Lindblad's car was fired briefly into the air and into the barriers, but Piastri brought his battered car home seventh.

The stewards ruled that Piastri was never fully alongside Lindblad and so could not claim the right to the corner. They also said Lindblad did not force Piastri off the track, but that the collision could have been avoided if Piastri had moved further left after the turn, even if that meant leaving the track before the second corner.

Piastri said he had tried to go up the inside, but Lindblad shut the door very late, forcing him onto the outside. As he tried to back out, Lindblad pushed him wide, the wheels interlocked, and he had nowhere else to go.

The penalty also changed the constructors' points. Racing Bulls take four points for Liam Lawson's eighth place, while Alpine's Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly take eight combined for seventh and ninth. Audi gained a point as Gabriel Bortoleto moved up to tenth.
