Nintendo announced that the 40th Anniversary Edition of its flagship title, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, will ship on October 29, 2026, while the Switch 2 version of the game will launch on November 5, 2026. The console and the game sold out worldwide shortly after the announcement, with queues forming at the official Nintendo store and in markets such as North America and Brazil. The high demand was evident from the moment the release dates were revealed, and fans in many regions were left waiting for the product.

Restock Plans

Bill van Zyll, Vice President and General Manager for Nintendo in Latin America, said the company underestimated demand for the 40th‑anniversary hardware and software, calling the franchise a global phenomenon. He apologized for the shortages and confirmed that a restock is in progress, though he could not give dates or quantities. Van Zyll noted that pre‑sales had reached maximum limits and that the company was working to replenish both the special console and the Pro Controller.

Retail partners such as Best Buy have announced midnight launches for the game and will offer limited quantities of the 40th Anniversary Edition console and Pro Controller. Nintendo is working to replenish inventory, coordinating with suppliers and retailers to ensure more units become available, but customers are asked to remain patient as restocks are organized. The company emphasized that it had never intended to run out of product.

The remake’s popularity was evident before launch, with the gameplay trailer surpassing ten million views on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel and pre‑orders hitting maximum limits. These high numbers helped the title appear on bestseller charts even before release, based on pre‑orders alone, and the pre‑order volume alone indicated strong anticipation from fans worldwide.
