Nicolas Cage spoke at New York Comic Con about a conflict with Amazon regarding artificial intelligence tools. He noted the studio invested heavily in open sources for AI, making them friendly to such technology. Cage stated he is not an actor who supports that direction and did not sign a waiver allowing its use on the project.
The series Spider-Noir was created for Prime Video by Amazon during the development phase. It marked the first time the actor appeared in a television role throughout his career. Critics praised the show globally as it reached viewers shortly after release.
Data showed the series gained 2.6 billion minutes viewed within its first six weeks on Prime Video. Review aggregators gave it high marks with a 92 percent rating from critics and 90 percent from audiences. ScreenRant reported the ratings were near-perfect compared to other superhero projects.
Amazon ended production after just one season last month. This cancellation happened only days before the Emmy Awards took place. The show received 11 nominations, which was more than any other Prime Video program this year.
Cage told the audience he likely will not work with that studio again after the dispute. He emphasized his refusal to let artificial intelligence be used on his performance in Spider-Noir. The actor said he is not a member of their club regarding AI usage policies.
The actor expressed a desire to collaborate with Gen-Z filmmakers who work differently. He specifically praised director Kane Parsons for making it from scratch by hand. This approach aligns with his views on the current culture of digital content creation.
