Netflix Faces Internal Woes Over Greta Gerwig’s Narnia

The first teaser for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia featured Led Zeppelin’s "Stairway to Heaven" and drew a mix of excitement and criticism from fans, who noted the film’s bold approach to the classic tale.

Jeff Sneider, a Hollywood insider, has reported that tensions may have arisen between Greta Gerwig and former Netflix film chief Dan Lin, possibly over the film’s rumored $280 million budget. Sneider has also said that Netflix executives are extremely unhappy with the movie, following an internal screening that was described as bleak. The studio has reportedly ordered reshoots and brought in outside help to revise the film.

Family Support

David and Douglas Gresham, stepchildren of C. S. Lewis, issued a statement through Netflix praising Gerwig’s passion for the series, citing a visit to the London set where the director’s enthusiasm was evident, and pledged continued collaboration on future projects.

The film stars David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, Kobna Holdbrook‑Smith, Denise Gough, and Susan Wokoma. Greta Gerwig directs and co‑produces with Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, and Vincent Sieber‑Smith, while executive producers include Patricia Whitcher, Racheline Benveniste, Christine Crais, Douglas Gresham, and Melvin Adams from the C. S. Lewis estate. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to open in theaters on February 12, 2027.

Reshoots and post‑production changes are common in Hollywood, and the outcome of this situation remains uncertain until the film’s release.
