On November 1, 2026, nonprofit health systems MultiCare and Samaritan Health Services will merge after getting state approval. The combined system will bring together MultiCare’s 13 hospitals in Washington and Samaritan’s five hospitals in Oregon. The merger will allow the two organizations to share resources, expand their reach, and serve patients across both states.

MultiCare will invest $700 million over ten years in Samaritan, and the partnership will keep the Samaritan name while adding MultiCare branding.

The collaboration is also meant to give Samaritan access to advanced tools and technology that can address growing health‑care demands. It will help the Oregon system cope with anticipated cuts to health‑care programs and provide a stronger financial base for future services.

In August, the Oregon Health Authority approved the merger, and regulators cleared the final portion involving Samaritan’s health plans in late September. The health systems said all public agencies had approved the deal or planned to do so. While the systems originally targeted an October 1 closing date, the final approval means the merger will close on November 1.

The new combined entity will expand MultiCare’s reach into Oregon and give Samaritan a broader network.
