MiniMed completed its separation from Medtronic, the companies said Thursday. The diabetes technology firm went public in March and is now fully independent. Medtronic had launched an exchange offer last month to spin off part of its MiniMed shares. Because the offer was oversubscribed, Medtronic exchanged all of its remaining stake in MiniMed for Medtronic shares, leaving MiniMed without a parent stake. MiniMed shares closed at $17.50 on Thursday.
CEO emphasizes independence
CEO Que Dallara said the company now has the freedom to make decisions that best serve its business and patients. “As an independent company, we have the freedom to make the decisions we believe are right for our business and the people we serve, and the responsibility to see those decisions through,” she said. “Our focus now is to put that independence to work and continue advancing what is possible in diabetes care.”
CFO Chad Spooner said during an earnings call that MiniMed is working to exit its technology service agreements with Medtronic. The company began with about 160 such agreements and expects to exit most of them by 2027.
