Merz Therapeutics has completed enrollment in two global Phase III trials, MINT‑C and MINT‑E, that evaluate the safety and efficacy of Xeomin for migraine prevention. About 1,800 patients were enrolled, a number that reflects both chronic and episodic migraine sufferers. Enrollment finished six months ahead of plan at 109 sites across Europe and North America. The early completion means the trials can now move into the main study period.
Trial Scope and Timeline
The studies measure the change in monthly migraine days from baseline to six months as the primary outcome. Secondary endpoints look at monthly headache days, acute medication days, and migraine frequency during two‑week periods at the end of each injection cycle. The main study period is expected to finish during the coming year, after which data analysis will guide future regulatory decisions.
Dr Stefan Albrecht, Merz’s chief scientific and medical officer, said that meeting the enrollment goal early is a key milestone. He added that the focus now shifts to the main study period and the analysis of data, which will inform the next steps for Xeomin’s potential approval as a preventive treatment for both chronic and episodic migraine. Xeomin is currently approved for several neurological and aesthetic indications in over 80 countries but has not yet been authorized for migraine prevention.
