McLaren has announced it will sell five of its own race‑used Formula 1 cars, including two 1991 MP4/6A chassis that were tested by Ayrton Senna but raced by Gerhard Berger, through specialist dealer Tom Hartley Jr.

Cars on the Sale

The cars span more than three decades: two 1991 MP4/6A chassis (numbers 4 and 7), a 2012 MP4/27A chassis 1 used by Jenson Button, the 2021 MCL35M chassis 1 that earned a podium at Monza with Daniel Ricciardo, and the 2023 MCL37A chassis 3 driven by Lando Norris and later by Brad Pitt.

CEO Zak Brown said the cars have been kept in storage for years and that the team wants them to be driven again, arguing that keeping them in a museum would be a disservice to their legacy.

Tom Hartley Jr., who handled the sale of the Ecclestone Grand Prix Collection, has been chosen to run the sale because of his experience and connections in the Formula 1 car market, and McLaren will prepare the vehicles before delivery.
