McLaren has confirmed that its next supercar will be called the McL 820, succeeding the 750S. The name was revealed in a publicity stunt in central London, where a giant kiwi statue wrapped in the brand's orange and black colours carried the McL 820 logo. No design or specification details have been released yet.
Naming and power
The "820" stands for the car's metric horsepower, which converts to 809 mechanical horsepower. That is about 70 horsepower more than the 750S's 740. The "McL" prefix is new too, previewed on the limited McL 6GT.
McLaren says the 750S will end production in 2027. The McL 820 is slated to hit the streets and racetracks that same year, with more details due next year.
The brand is now wholly owned by Abu Dhabi investment fund L'imad, which cleared substantial existing debt. McLaren plans to triple production, build its own engines in-house and launch its first high-performance hybrid SUV, along with a second UK factory.
