A Change.org petition titled #SaveMassEffect has attracted more than 207,000 signatures, urging Electronic Arts to keep the sci‑fi series alive. The petition says EA could either fund the next Mass Effect game itself or license the franchise to another studio. Actors Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer have backed the campaign, and Meer has urged fans to sign. EA has yet to say whether it will revive Mass Effect or hand the project to another developer.

EA announced on October 21 that it would shut down BioWare, the studio behind the series, and cancel the long‑developed Mass Effect 5. The closure is part of a restructuring that involves about 400 layoffs. A supposed trailer for the cancelled game leaked online a day later. Last year, EA downsized BioWare's team and said the cuts were related to staff who had shipped Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Earlier, the series director had told fans the next game was still in development. In a letter to staff, EA said it will keep investing in sports games, Apex Legends, Battlefield and action-adventure projects including the next Star Wars Jedi game and Marvel's Iron Man.
