Amazon MGM Studios has set a theatrical release date of December 25, 2027 for the live‑action/CGI film Lizard Music. The movie reunites Dwayne Johnson with filmmaker Benny Safdie, who writes and directs the adaptation of Daniel Pinkwater’s 1976 novel. The story will be distributed by Amazon MGM and is expected to be a family‑friendly fantasy.

Plot Overview

Lizard Music follows a young boy who stumbles on a late‑night broadcast of lizards playing otherworldly music. His search leads him to the eccentric Chicken Man, played by Johnson, and his 111‑year‑old chicken, Claudia. Together they venture into a hidden society that promises adventure and unexpected harmony.

In addition to Johnson, the cast includes newcomer Theo Clark Leber as the boy, Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, Arya Parvathi, Regina Hall, Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, Rachel McAdams, Andrew Dice Clay and David Krumholtz. The ensemble brings a mix of comedy, drama and science‑fiction talent to the project.

Principal photography began in August, with Johnson preparing for his 70‑year‑old role by spending five hours a day in prosthetic makeup. Safdie described the film as a blend of Willy Wonka‑style wonder and surreal fantasy. The production aims to deliver a visually striking holiday experience.

The December 25, 2027 release places Lizard Music alongside other Amazon MGM titles, such as Ron Howard’s Alone at Dawn and Nancy Meyers’ Paris Paramount, and follows the December 17 release of Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars. It follows Safdie and Johnson’s previous collaboration, The Smashing Machine, which underperformed at the box office.
