Lexus has refreshed the second‑generation NX for the 2027 model year, marking five years since the compact luxury SUV was launched. The update eliminates the gasoline‑only version and shifts the model to a hybrid‑only lineup, offering both regular and plug‑in hybrid variants. The company says the change reflects growing demand for electrified powertrains in its best‑selling SUV. With the refresh, Lexus also plans upgrades to technology, driver‑assist systems and driving dynamics.

Powertrain Enhancements

The hybrid version now produces a combined 244 hp, a 4 hp lift over the 2026 model, and Lexus says the system feels smoother and more refined. Plug‑in hybrids receive two more powerful electric motors and a larger battery, boosting total output to 324 hp—20 hp more than last year. The new lithium‑ion pack also gives up to 45 miles of all‑electric range. Factory‑installed North American Charging System ports let owners plug into DC fast chargers, with 10 % to 80 % charging in about 35 minutes.

Under the hood, both powertrains use a new e‑axle assembly that combines the transaxle, electric motor and power‑control unit into a single component. Updated electronics and silicon‑carbide semiconductors improve drivetrain efficiency. Inside, a 12.3‑inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.0‑inch touchscreen run Lexus’ new infotainment system, providing wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM radio and more. Higher trims may add a 10‑speaker Premium Sound System or a 17‑speaker Mark Levinson PurePlay Surround Sound system.

Styling and Interior Features

Exterior styling moves from chrome to mostly black trim, introduces a new mesh grille and revised mirrors, and adds taillights with L‑shaped elements that flank a lit logo on the rear liftgate. Inside, the steering wheel now features a badge spelling out “Lexus.” Lexus also introduces Responsive Hidden Switches that change illumination based on context. Five interior color options are offered, including an F‑Sport exclusive Radiant Red upholstery. A new Sensory Concierge feature links cabin lighting, audio, climate controls and scent to create three mood settings: Inspire, Radiance and Revitalize.

The 2026 hybrid NX starts at $46,570, and Lexus has not yet released pricing or an on‑sale date for the 2027 model. Buyers can expect the updated hybrid‑only lineup to arrive later this year once the manufacturer finalizes details.
