Keanu Reeves is reportedly in talks to join James Wan in a Paramount Pictures remake of the 2019 Korean thriller The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. The project marks Wan’s return to feature‑film directing after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. Reeves, best known for his work in the John Wick series, would be paired with Korean actor Don Lee, who is slated to reprise his original role.
Plot of the original film
The original Korean film centers on a gangster and a police detective who reluctantly team up to hunt a serial killer, each pursuing their own agenda and exchanging double‑crosses. Don Lee, who played the gangster in the 2019 version, is attached to return as the same character. Reeves is expected to play the cop, though the final character assignment has not been confirmed.
The script for the remake was rewritten by Eric Pearson, building on earlier drafts by Shay Hatten and Brian Helgeland. Production is being handled by Wan through his Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner, alongside Michael Clear and Jason Blum. Additional producers include Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller of Balboa Productions, Don Lee via Big Punch Global, Chris S. Lee of B&C Group, Jang Won‑seok of BA Entertainment, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Reeves has a diverse slate that includes a time‑loop thriller, a voice role as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and the live‑action adaptation BRZRKR, showcasing his range from high‑octane action to voice work and experimental storytelling.
According to THR, negotiations are near completion, and production is expected to begin in April 2027 with filming in Los Angeles. Wan will return to the set after a three‑year hiatus from directing.
