Plasma 6.8 introduces fresh window decorations that extend to third‑party applications, giving them a look and feel more consistent with the KDE desktop. The update also revamps the built‑in System Monitor, adding a graphical option for pinning processes to specific CPU cores. Users can now pin processes directly to CPU cores through the GUI.
Remote Desktop Enhancements
The new release upgrades KDE’s remote desktop server to support several features that improve cross‑network use. Clipboard data now synchronises automatically between the client and the server, allowing copy‑and‑paste work to flow in both directions. “Exclusive Mode” locks the server’s physical display and lets the client present a virtual display that mirrors the client’s own screen. Adaptive remote streaming also helps the connection stay smooth on slower or unstable networks.
Alongside the technical updates, KDE released a documentary that chronicles its history as a free‑software project. The film, titled The KDE Documentary — A Story of Free Software Underdogs, was released alongside Plasma 6.8. It opens with a montage of contributors joking about the question “What is KDE?” and then dives into interviews that detail the community’s challenges and milestones.
