Pre‑orders for the iPhone Duo begin this Friday, and the first units will ship on October 23. The new phone is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, sparking a lot of interest. It is the most radical change to the iPhone in a while.
Hardware trade‑offs
The Duo starts at $1,999, making it the most expensive iPhone yet. Its camera system has two rear lenses but no dedicated telephoto lens.
Unlocking the Duo uses Touch ID on the side button instead of Face ID, which may take some getting used to. The Action Button is gone, so you can only silence the phone or access quick controls through the Control Center. Camera Control is still available, letting you launch your favorite camera app with a single tap.
Apple has updated iOS 27 to take advantage of the foldable form factor, so menus and apps can snap to two halves of the screen when you bend the hinge. Third‑party developers still need to update their apps to fill the entire screen on the Duo. Popular apps such as Netflix, Zoom and Slack will already have updates on launch day, but others may appear stretched or have black bars.
The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold also starts at $1,899 and offers a 5‑x optical zoom telephoto lens, making it one of the best camera systems on a foldable phone.
Apple offers trade‑in discounts of up to $885, and you can pay in installments with the Apple Card, starting at $83.29 per month for 24 months. Apple Upgrade, a financing program with Klarna, starts at $57.99 per month for 24 months. Carrier deals include up to $1,200 trade‑in credit from AT&T and up to $1,000 from T‑Mobile for Xfinity Mobile Plus customers, plus a $400 discount for pre‑ordering.
