Apple’s first fold‑able iPhone Duo will support the Apple Pencil with the upcoming iOS 27.2 update, which is scheduled to launch on Oct. 26. The update’s release candidate, which rolled out on Monday, already enables the stylus on the Duo. Reviewers on social media confirmed that the USB‑C model works from day one, while the older Pencil Pro or standard models are not compatible.
Apple Pencil support arrives early
Only the USB‑C version of the Apple Pencil can be used with the Duo. Users who already own a Pencil for their iPad will need to purchase the USB‑C model, which is currently on sale for $69 on Amazon. The new stylus support will be available immediately for those who have the beta, and for others it will arrive with the final public release.
iOS 27.2 also brings a range of other changes. Early betas added new Siri AI languages—French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish—alongside dual‑capture for Group FaceTime, a refreshed Podcasts “Up Next” tab, and Apple TV features such as Simple Profiles and Multiview. The redesigned Health app and AI‑powered insights were removed from the final release.
Adding stylus support to a foldable is rare in the smartphone market. While many Android foldables, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, dropped pen support to slim the device, Apple is doing the opposite, offering a productivity edge for people who like to write or sketch on a larger screen. The Duo’s 7.6‑inch inner display makes it more like a small iPad, so the Apple Pencil could become a key selling point.
