Indie developers behind Drunken Goddess Reflux have pulled the public Steam demo that was slated for October 19, 2026. In a Steam news post, the team said they were unprepared to set rules for how players could share or stream gameplay. They also warned that AI tools could copy the demo’s assets and release a similar version before the game’s official launch. The title already has more than 500,000 wishlists on Steam. GamesRadar+ notes that developers are canceling demos to stop AI users from stealing their games.
Closed Playtest Restrictions
Instead, the team will hold a closed playtest. Interested players must apply through the official Discord and agree to a playtest contract that bars sharing codes, posting gameplay videos, or letting AI train on the game. The deadline for applications is October 22, 2026, and participants must be at least 15, or have parental consent if younger.
The cancellation reflects growing concerns that AI could replicate a game’s presentation and gameplay before its launch, potentially releasing a copy ahead of the original. The developers are concerned the game may be ripped off and beaten to its own launch.
