Hyundai announced a recall of 94,622 U.S. units of the Genesis G80 and earlier Hyundai Genesis sedans. The company learned in 2021 that a plastic control switch on the power seat can become loose or misaligned when it is struck by a foreign object. When the switch stays engaged, the seat motor can run for a long time and overheat, which could start a fire.

Seat Switch Issue

The defect involves a switch supplied by Nidec Mobility Korea. The switch may stay closed even after the car is turned off. Hyundai Motor America has asked owners to park outside, away from other vehicles and structures, until a repair is approved. No fix is available yet, but the company is working on a remedy. Dealers will provide free repairs once the fix is cleared.

The recall was decided in October 2025, almost five years after the first report. Hyundai estimates that only about 1 % of the affected cars have actually had the defect. Owners will get notification letters in the first week of December 2026, and dealers will receive instructions on December 6. Owners who already paid for a repair or a replacement can claim reimbursement under Hyundai's plan filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
