Hyundai Motor inaugurated a new assembly plant in Talegaon, close to Pune, Maharashtra, on a day that also celebrated the 30th anniversary of Hyundai Motor India Limited. The ceremony underscored the company’s long‑term commitment to the Indian market and highlighted the plant as a key driver of future growth. The plant is a strategic expansion of Hyundai Motor Group’s footprint in India, adding a major hub to its existing facilities in Chennai and Anantapur.
The new facility has an initial annual production capacity of 170,000 vehicles, boosting Hyundai Motor Group’s overall output in India to 1.4 million cars a year. Chennai already produces 824,000 units, and Kia’s Anantapur plant adds 431,000 units. By 2030 the Pune plant is planned to grow to 320,000 vehicles, and its engine shop can produce 150,000 engines per year.
Hyundai began operations in the Pune plant with the all‑new Venue sub‑compact crossover, which is sold domestically and exported to more than 35 overseas markets. The launch demonstrates India’s role as a global export hub for Hyundai Motor Group.
The plant is one of the group’s most advanced sites, using Industry 4.0 technologies, an AI‑enabled production system and the E‑FOREST digital manufacturing platform. AI‑driven analytics, predictive maintenance, quality inspection, digital simulations and immersive AR training improve quality, productivity and safety. Flexible lines can handle multiple vehicle models, including ICE and hybrid variants.
Hyundai will invest INR 11,000 crore (US$ 1.16 billion) in phases and has already attracted 55 supplier partners that invested nearly INR 4,600 crore. The ecosystem has created more than 18,000 jobs in Maharashtra, reinforcing the region’s status as an automotive hub.
