Hirakawa had only one practice session and qualifying to prepare for his race, and he finished 13th on the road. Oscar Piastri's post-race penalty, then the Alpine penalties, moved him up to 10th. "I'm really happy as today was my dream, so I just want to enjoy this moment," he said after the race.
Alpine loses points after penalties
Alpine lost all the points it had earned in the race because Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly were penalised for failing to slow under yellow flags. Colapinto received a 10-second penalty for a single yellow flag, while Gasly was handed a stop-and-go penalty that became a 30-second time addition. The stewards rejected telemetry and photographic evidence supplied by the team. Both drivers apologised publicly. "I am sorry to the team for the yellow flag infringement, it is my error which has obviously stopped us from scoring points," Gasly said. "There are a few things for us to look at on our side as I felt we could have been much higher up had we not had some of the issues. It's not been a great day for me, a lot to reflect on."
Piastri's 10-second post-race penalty for a collision with Arvid Lindblad at Turn 1 moved the others up the order. Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar entered the points, while Haas gained one. Alpine is sixth in the constructors' championship on 69 points and is now chasing Racing Bulls for fifth with four races left.
