Hideo Kojima will appear in the Cyberpunk universe for the second time as Hideyoshi Oshima, a braindance director. He first showed up in the main game Cyberpunk 2077, where players can spot him in a hotel bar during the mission The Heist. In the bar, Oshima sits at a table talking to patrons about recording experiences for the city's braindance industry. His likeness and voice were used in that cameo.

The second season of the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, scheduled to premiere on October 20, will also feature Kojima. CD Projekt Red confirmed that he will reprise his role as Oshima and voice the character again. The announcement came alongside a teaser featuring a social media post from the series' account.

Kojima is best known for directing the Metal Gear Solid series, Death Stranding, and the cyberpunk‑themed visual novel Snatcher, which began on early home computers in 1988. The visual novel has become a cult classic, and a later English release appeared on the Sega CD. Kojima’s involvement in Cyberpunk projects shows a long‑running connection to the cyberpunk genre.

Background and Expectations

Reviewers praised the first season of Edgerunners for its animation style and gripping narrative. In anticipation of the new season, critics hope it will match or surpass the quality of the first season. Some reviewers noted that the cameo adds a nostalgic touch for fans familiar with the original game.
