Health systems are juggling rising costs and staff shortages while trying to keep patients healthy. A new AI platform called Healthleap helps hospitals spot conditions that are often missed, such as malnutrition, before they worsen.

Healthleap announced that it has raised $38 million in seed and Series A funding from Sequoia Capital, First Round Capital and Hummingbird Ventures. The money will be used to add more conditions to its screening tool.

Right now the platform focuses on malnutrition. The AI assigns each patient a priority score from 0 to 10. Dietitians see this score in their normal EHR worklist and treat the highest‑risk patients first.

The company plans to add screening for congestive heart failure, aspiration pneumonia, delirium, pressure ulcers and certain hospital‑acquired infections. Each new condition will go through clinical validation and will appear in the same EHR column, so clinicians will not get interruptive alerts.

More than 50 hospitals already use Healthleap, including Penn Medicine, Houston Methodist, Cedars‑Sinai, Emory and UMass Memorial. The system’s adoption shows that the tool can fit into existing workflows.
