James Gunn and Peter Safran have reaffirmed their commitment to the DC Universe for the long haul. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Safran said a “bigger story” has been in the works for years, and that being under Paramount gives them “even more resources” and a wider reach. Both executives noted that they survived the recent studio culling, and Safran thanked David Ellison for inviting them to continue. Gunn added that Ellison knows “all we wanted to do and what was happening, the secrets, and where the DCU was going.”

Upcoming slate

Beyond the 2027 film Man of Tomorrow, the slate includes a new Clayface movie, a second season of Creature Commandos, the TV series The People v. Gorilla Grodd, and 2028’s The Batman Part II. Safran said Clayface will give the DC slate a “tremendous scope of tones and vibes, scales and scopes and budget levels” and that the film will be a pure body‑horror movie—a dream come true. He added that even those unfamiliar with the character will likely enjoy it as a horror movie.

Director James Watkins said the current regime change is “outside noise” and that he will focus on making the best movie he can, with the rest out of his control. He said he’s excited for the Clayface film and that they’ve been getting good responses, hoping it will connect with audiences.
