The launch trailer for Rockstar Games’ long‑awaited GTA 6 has been met with mixed reactions. Some viewers report the video looks noticeably blurrier than earlier footage, sparking speculation that the game may have a visual downgrade. Fans on social media have shared side‑by‑side comparisons that point to softer textures and less sharp detail. Critics on Twitter have highlighted that the trailer’s softness may affect the immersive experience expected from a flagship title.

QSSR Upscaling Analysis

Digital Foundry’s Rich Leadbetter examined the trailer and found no evidence that Sony’s new QSSR upscaling technology is being used. QSSR, introduced earlier this month for the PS5, is currently only in first‑party titles like Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei, but it will soon be available to third‑party developers. Because GTA 6 already targets a 1440p native resolution, the reviewers argue that the cost of QSSR would take a large portion of the game’s rendering budget.

Some of the perceived softness in the trailer has been attributed to heavy post‑processing effects, particularly bloom, or the use of HDR filters. A few users have removed the added filter to produce an unblurred version that matches earlier footage, suggesting that the visual quality itself may not have been reduced. The unblurred version demonstrates that the base textures remain sharp, implying the blur is a post‑processing choice rather than a downgrade.

Despite the controversy, Rockstar has emphasized that the game’s performance and visual fidelity will be optimized for PS5 hardware. Gamers are awaiting the full product to confirm whether the visual concerns hold or if the game’s performance on the console meets expectations.
