Google DeepMind and its cloud service, Google Cloud, announced they will give up to 200 top European scientific researchers direct access to frontier models. Alongside this technical access, the company is providing $3 million in compute credits to support their work. Both reports confirm these figures as part of a statement released today by the US tech giant.

The available tools include AlphaFold 3 for predicting protein and molecule structures, WeatherNext for forecasting weather, and AlphaGenome for studying DNA. Researchers will also access AlphaEvolve to design algorithms and AlphaEarth Foundations which maps the planet using satellite data. Google said these models help teams solve hard problems faster, from extreme weather patterns to molecular mapping.

Google stated this move aims to speed up the pace of European innovation and ensure the region remains scientifically competitive. Maureen Costello, a Google Cloud vice president, wrote in a blog post that the tools will help teams solve problems more quickly. However, neither report specified which individual researchers would receive the access or how the credits would be split between them.

The offer runs through RAISE, a European Union programme launched in November 2025 to help scientists use AI. This virtual institute has €107 million in EU funding for its pilot phase, mostly used to train and attract researchers. In February 2025, the EU also set up a €20 billion fund to build up to five large AI computing centres.

DeepMind released AlphaFold 3 in May 2024 together with Isomorphic Labs, a sister company focused on drug discovery. Academics could download the code for non-commercial work starting in November 2024. The team behind the model won a Nobel Prize in 2024 before breaking up later that year.

Several London-based AI labs founded by former DeepMind scientists have recently launched operations this year. One of these, Ineffable Intelligence, raised $1.1 billion in seed funding at a valuation of $5.1 billion. Another lab called Inherent also emerged with a $50m raise after coming out of stealth.
