Google Health’s latest 5.11 update broadens automatic activity tracking, moving from 10 to more than 100 recognized exercise types. The upgrade is rolling out to Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5, and will also benefit the Fitbit Edge.

The system combines routine, history, manual edits, and optional location data to decide what a user is doing. Workouts that maintain a sustained elevated heart rate and meet a minimum duration—default 15 minutes—are logged automatically, and a summary notification usually arrives within 30 minutes.

Google claims the new context improves detection accuracy by nearly twice and cuts missed workouts by more than half. Users can also correct misidentified sessions, which helps the model learn personal patterns for future predictions.

The feature is already available on iOS, with Android rollout continuing. After updating, users see a new “Expanded activity detection, built to learn” screen.
