In 2026, Google expanded its Gemini chatbot by adding a Personal Intelligence layer that can pull information from users’ Gmail, Calendar, Photos and Search. The feature began as a paid option but was later made free for all Gemini users. It is still optional and can be turned off in the settings.
Rollout to Android Auto
Google has begun rolling out Personal Intelligence to Android Auto today, with plans to add it to its automotive operating system in the next few months. Vehicles that run Google’s built‑in software can receive the feature without needing a connected phone. The rollout remains opt‑in.
When enabled, Gemini can retrieve details from an email, a photo or a Google Maps place and reason across those sources to answer a driver’s question. The assistant can warn about flight delays, suggest restaurants that match a user’s past reservations and pull up relevant trip information while the driver is on the road. This is described by Karan Daryanani, a senior product manager for Gemini, in the Thurrott report.
For example, a driver could say “take me to my doctor’s appointment” and Gemini would use the connected calendar to navigate to the address.
