The Coalition released its first major update for Gears of War: E-Day since the full release. The patch is described as significant and it touches every part of the game. It fixes many bugs and improves stability. Ranked Versus was added the night before and the team fixed a placement match bug that put players in the wrong skill tier.
Stability and Optimization Fixes
A big part of the update is better stability and optimization for PCs, Xbox consoles and handhelds. The patch adds memory improvements to stop crashes and performance drops during long play sessions. It also fixes several login and account linking problems, cleans up the social menu, and adds better anti‑cheat protection on servers.
Campaign gameplay is also polished. The patch fixes weapon mods that didn’t work and stops parts of the War Journal from missing progress. It also corrects issues that kept collectibles from being automatically granted. Players can now see which collectibles are missing and can re‑collect them. Rewards that were lost after a game restart can be earned again by replaying the mission.
Horde Siege and Versus modes received many fixes. The patch fixes the Medic’s tactical gear that could not revive players when friendly fire was on, stops enemies from becoming invisible when emerging from holes, and stops the Corpser from becoming unkillable during an invasion event. In Versus, the bomb in Demolition can no longer get stuck on the park, and the Lancer Mk1 can now kill enemies with melee attacks. Other bugs that broke the match intro, allowed duplicate objectives, or caused players to be stuck in menus were also addressed.
Some known issues remain, such as certain achievements and rewards not awarding correctly after campaign completion. The Coalition is investigating these problems and has asked players to report them via a support link. The patch is available for download on Xbox consoles and PC within a few hours of its release.
