Ford has revealed its upcoming Fathom electric pickup, a compact truck priced at $29,945 that will run on the company’s new Universal EV platform and will be roughly the size of the Maverick.

The Fathom will enter a niche segment of compact electric pickup trucks. Ford says the Fathom will bring a range of standard features at a price that rivals the compact Ford Maverick and the newly announced Slate pickup.

Official pre‑orders will not open until early 2027, but Ford is already accepting names for a separate "pre‑order invite" list that will give early supporters the first wave of production trucks. The full Fathom reveal is expected by the end of 2026, and delivery will begin in late 2027.

Inside the Fathom, a large touchscreen will run Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Ford’s own navigation powered by Apple Maps, which Ford claims will improve its BlueCruise hands‑free driving system. BlueCruise will be available on every Fathom, though activation will cost extra and may be subscription‑based. A digital key and remote control via the Ford app are also standard.

The truck will use a 400‑volt electrical architecture and a lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery, a setup that should keep the price down. Early images of the UEV platform show a rear‑wheel‑drive layout, but Ford is likely to offer an all‑wheel‑drive version as well. Acceleration to 60 mph will be comparable to a four‑cylinder Mustang, but other performance data such as range, torque, and charging speeds are still undisclosed.

Ford has also highlighted the Fathom’s bidirectional power capability, allowing the truck to supply electricity to tools and camping gear. The interior will reportedly offer more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4, though exact measurements have not yet been released. Details on trim levels and battery options – standard and extended range – remain under wraps.
