Final Fantasy VII Revelation will let players pick Hard Mode at the very beginning, as confirmed by director Naoki Hamaguchi. The new setting removes the requirement that players finish the main story before accessing Hard Mode, a change from earlier Remake and Rebirth titles that locked the mode for later playthroughs. In Hard Mode, the game has removed earlier restrictions on item use and lets players adjust party roles through the FITS system, offering a tougher challenge from the first playthrough. Hard Mode is described as the most challenging setting, intended for players who want to test their skills in every battle.
Dynamic Mode also returns in Revelation, scaling enemy strength to match the party’s level and keeping the difficulty consistent as the story progresses. The mode automatically sets combat to Active Style, and players can tweak it later in the Options menu along with other settings such as Active Combat Style and minigame difficulty. Dynamic Mode was first introduced in Rebirth and has been described as a way to maintain challenge without relying solely on standard difficulty levels. The inclusion of both Hard and Dynamic Modes makes Revelation the final installment of the remake trilogy and will launch globally on April 8, 2027.
