Dual Fusion reportedly adds dual‑type cards to Pokémon

Pokémon’s mobile trading‑card game will launch a new expansion called Dual Fusion on October 28, 2026. The set introduces dual‑type cards for the first time in the app, with Mega Mewtwo X ex as a Psychic‑Fighting card and Mega Greninja ex as a Water‑Darkness card. The announcement was made by The Pokémon Company and is tied to the game’s second anniversary. The expansion will also feature new illustrations for popular Pokémon such as Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise.

Special packs called First Partners will debut on October 31 and run until December 26. Each pack uses a separate weekly stamina pool and guarantees at least one ★ card. In addition, Pikachu‑themed event missions will run from October 20, 2026 to October 20, 2027, offering a special Pikachu ex card and Pikachu‑ex immersive cards for a 10‑day login streak.

New Release Cadence and Decks

The release cadence for future expansions will shift from roughly four weeks to about six weeks, giving players more time to collect cards before the next set arrives. Rental and elite decks based on the new cards will be available from Dual Fusion’s launch until mid‑December, including a Mega Rayquaza ex‑driven deck. The game will also host a series of in‑app events such as the Second Anniversary Celebration Campaign, themed promo card events, battle rally missions and a ranked match season.

A preview of the Dual Fusion card list shows that the set will include starter creatures like Fuecoco and Piplup, as well as many other new and existing Pokémon cards. The full card list will be released closer to launch, but the trailer already revealed the presence of Mega Mewtwo X ex, Mega Greninja and other notable Pokémon.
