Agentic AI is pushing the need for general‑purpose compute, and server consolidation is getting a second look as data centers try to fit more power into limited space.

Dell Technologies has responded by adding 11 new PowerEdge servers in May, seeing the pressure for more efficient compute as an opening for its server line.

Because agentic AI agents rely heavily on central processing units, data centers face a short supply of both power and space for adding new servers.

Dell’s upcoming 18th‑generation PowerEdge servers use Advanced Micro Devices processors, delivering 70% performance gains over the previous generation and allowing a single server to replace 13 older units.

Replacing 10 to 13 old servers with one newer model gives a big productivity boost, and when applied across many data centers the benefit compounds into an accelerating effect.

The three‑rack‑unit, two‑socket design of the new PowerEdge servers uses less power and cooling than a two‑unit equivalent, letting customers fit more compute into each rack.

Dell’s management tools, such as iDRAC and OpenManage Enterprise, tie fleets together, and the servers support multiple chip suppliers so customers are not locked into a single silicon choice.
