The Academy has ruled that Coyote vs. Acme is eligible for Best Animated Feature at the 2027 Oscars. Gold Derby reported the ruling, and distributor Ketchup Entertainment will submit the film for consideration. The movie was finished in 2023 but shelved by Warner Bros. before Ketchup acquired it and opened it in late August.

Competitive field

The film blends live action with animated Looney Tunes characters. Will Forte plays a human lawyer who takes on a manufacturer whose products keep failing Wile E. Coyote. Eric Bauza, who voiced the Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Tweety, died 48 hours before the ruling. The film's anti-corporate satire has drawn praise from critics and audiences alike.

If nominated, Coyote vs. Acme would be only the second live-action/animation hybrid in the category, after Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. It would also be the first Looney Tunes feature to land with the Academy. The race has been a two-horse contest between Laika's Wildwood, a critical favorite with soft box office, and Pixar's Toy Story 5. Other contenders include Iron Boy, Tangles, Ray Gunn, Hoppers and Forgotten Island.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 96% Tomatometer score, and its Popcornmeter score is 94%. Its IMDb rating is 7.3/10, based on more than 47,000 reviews.
