Chevrolet has announced that the Desert Boss package is returning for the 2027 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2.
The Desert Boss kit adds a distinctive off‑road front bumper, a specialized lighting set, bronze‑finished recovery hooks, door sill plates, and a set of decals for the front fenders.
The suspension package includes Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, nitrogen‑charged hydraulic bump stops that work alongside the existing DSSV dampers to absorb impact and prevent bottom‑out on rough terrain.

Unlike the 2023 edition, which was a factory‑prepped special edition, the 2027 Desert Boss will be sold as a dealer‑installed option, with dealers installing the equipment after the truck leaves the factory. The earlier edition was limited to about 600 units, making it a rare find in the used‑truck market.
The 2023 Desert Boss added $9,295 to a Colorado’s sticker price, but the cost of the 2027 version has not yet been announced. The package will not be offered in conjunction with the Bison or Midnight trims.
The 2027 Colorado will now come fitted with GM's updated turbocharged 2.7‑liter inline‑four engine, known as the L4B, which replaces the L3B and is already available on the 2027 Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. It produces 350 horsepower and 450 pound‑feet of torque, an upgrade over the previous 310 horsepower and 430 pound‑feet.
The return of the Desert Boss package gives off‑road enthusiasts another affordable way to customize the ZR2 for extreme terrain. With upgraded bumpers, lighting, and suspension, the Colorado can tackle more demanding trails while still fitting into the midsize pickup segment.
