A new clinical trial shows that adults with type‑2 diabetes who use continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) spend roughly five more hours a day in the healthy blood‑sugar range than those who receive routine care.

CGMs track glucose levels continuously with a small sensor worn on the body. The data can be viewed in real time, letting patients see how food, activity and medication affect their levels and helping them make informed adjustments.

The study followed 283 participants in 22 primary‑care practices for 26 weeks. CGM users spent an additional five hours per day in range and had a 0.9 percentage‑point lower average A1c, a marker of long‑term glucose control, compared with controls.

These findings support broader use of CGMs for non‑insulin‑treated type‑2 diabetes and could influence national guidelines and insurance coverage, potentially giving millions of patients a new tool for better management.
