Caves of Qud, the science‑fantasy roguelike from Freehold and Kitfox, has announced that its first expansion, Diaspora, will enter Early Access on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux on December 9, 2026. The Early Access version will be priced at $14.99, with the full 1.0 release expected after roughly a year of development.
Launch Features
Diaspora’s launch content lets players assume the roles of a Mutated Animal, a Mutated Plant, or a denizen of the Great Rondures on the Ocean of Iber. It introduces a new spear weapon that can strike from two tiles away, a host of fresh creatures and items, Dromad caravans with mountable saltbacks, and upgraded road and river systems that weave through the world.
In 2027 the expansion will receive additional updates, including a migrant‑journey‑focused questline, new foxen and snailfolk factions, further creatures, item mods, new biomes, cooking ingredients, diseases, and more. Caves of Qud has already run for fifteen years of development and was released in December 2024, with a Switch version following early this year, and has been praised for its deep simulation and character customization.
