Cadillac has announced a new contract that keeps Sergio Pérez on the team through at least the 2029 season. The extension was revealed just before Pérez’s home race in Mexico, where he will record his 300th Formula 1 start. CEO Dan Towriss said, "Building a competitive team in F1 is a long‑term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year."

Contract details and racing milestones

After recording his 300th Formula 1 start, the Mexican driver became the seventh‑ever driver to reach that milestone. The new contract means that in the coming years he is poised to overtake Jenson Button, Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello and Kimi Raikkonen for third on the all‑time starts leaderboard, putting him behind only Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. Pérez currently sits 23rd in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship, with a best finish of 14th.

Cadillac has not yet confirmed who will partner Pérez next season, and the extension has sparked speculation about the future of teammate Valtteri Bottas. The team has not yet committed to Bottas for 2027, and some reports suggest that the driver lineup could change.

Pérez reiterated his commitment to the team, saying the project is rewarding but still has a long way to go. He thanked Dan Towriss, Mark Reuss and the crew at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what they have started.
